Eve just isn't that good. It lacks quite a lot of features and there's still a lot of room for improvements. PvE is mostly a montonous business. The game also emphasizes pirating and PvP a lot in some quite unrealistic ways (standings repair, insurance) which doesn't help balancing the game. It still a nice game but very far from perfection. Some other games out there have features that are far more sophisticated than EVE's.

Why aren't there more people subscribing to EvE?
Perhaps because EVE is a harsh, dark, unforgiving place and most people don't like harsh, dark and unforgiving places?

Originally by: Azshann Would increasing the 200% learning rate to 15,000 SP help? I'm just curious, because at 15m SP you'd have all the basic fitting skills/navigation/etc that apply to all ships, plus you'd be thoroughly into one or two specializations by the time you reached 15 mil.
Maybe, but it will never be implemented. For one thing, veterans would rage hard enough to tear asunder an entire continental shelf. This "fraternity initiation" mindset ù i.e., the idea that "all new players must suffer exactly as much as I did" ù prevents changes to the game that would make starting out easier on new players in any way.
Perhaps CCP should do just that and exchange the bitter old geezers for some fresh blood. It would be refreshing to start from scratch with a whole new generation of players!

Originally by: Matthias Howe What if I would love to take my harbi out and thrash some minmatar during a vacation weekend? I can't do it, because I'll lose or cause my gang to lose. I've even been taunted in chat for coming into a fight with T1 gear and told "never fit T1's again because it effects the killboards. Don't tell me that you can come in and start pvping right off the bat. That's crap.
I have the money, but it ****es me off to no end that I'm paying CCP every month for months just to become relatively viable in pvp. In the meantime, there's nothing really to do. So, I'm paying for nothing except the privilege to play? WHAAAA??T?
That's .. very recognizable! :-) I also had billions and billions of ISK to spend but not the SP to fly anything for quite a while. I can imagine it's not really encouraging for new players. And imo you don't have to be suffering AD/HD to want to fly that T2 fitted T2 ship within a few months of hard work. So yes, fully agreed upon.

You wrote all that to basically say that you want to be level 80 in 2 weeks. This is considered a good idea? You just described a a first person shooter which is what DUST is going to be. Why oh why do people that cannot succeed in a mmorpg always ultimately resort to asking that the rules be changed? Other people are making due why can't you?
Well I don't know about you but the extreme slow skilltraining isn't exactly what I'd call the main reason I'm playing EVE. I understand being able to fly titans with perfect skill may take a few years and that's fine by me. Or flying all sub-capital ships of all races with T2 stuff equiped may take a while.
But it's extremely slow at the moment, I wouldn't mind a 100% skilltraing speed boost and not having to wait for weeks for a single lvl V skill. Even if we'd get it it will still take like 15 years to train all skills, I think that's already long enough.
I hope you're not really sincerely surprised that a lot of people quit playing EVE after a while. There's a lot of gradations between instant gratification and a monk's life work and sometimes EVE seems to come closer to the latter option.

Originally by: oil so much bullcrap in a single thread. the time factor is exactly the thing why there are still players from 2003 in the game. if u want senseless grinding then do it and buy a char with the money. that wont make u useful though.
As if an endless skillqueue is a good reason to play a game.
As long as the content is challenging and fun there's no need for skilling up. There's games with a finite skillqueues and it doesn't stop people from playing it. The so called "time factor" is far less important than you think.

Originally by: Ben Musso No, CCP cannot simplify and dumb it down so that every "other MMO" kid can understand it. The game mechanics and information needed to perform as a player just do not allow for it. And I, am happy about that.
Wut, are you underestimating other people's intelligence or overestimating your own?
EVE isn't a difficult game at all, there's just a lot to learn. It's still very simple, there's just a large quantity of simple things. It's still like a children's book, but with 100 pages in stead of 40.
Although, for some things it's handy to be able to use spreadsheets .. other games generally don't have that requirement.
